Considering an Exodus 90 Group This January?
Overview
We are gauging interest in hosting a free Exodus 90 group for men and, if there is sufficient interest and a female host, a free Magnify 90 group for women, both beginning January 5, 2026. Each group requires a minimum of five committed participants by Friday, January 2 to move forward. If you are interested, please complete the interest form to help us determine whether these groups will run.
Update (January 3, 2025): We have sufficient interest to proceed with the E90 fraternity. Feel free to join the group, even if we have already started the program.
Unfortunately, we did not have the same interest for the women’s group.
Update (December 25, 2025): Current participation numbers and important clarifications about how this Exodus 90 group will be approached, including family life and the liturgical calendar, are included in a note at the bottom of this article.
As we approach the new year, many men and women are discerning how to begin 2026 with greater discipline, prayer, and intentionality. One option we are exploring is hosting free 90-day formation groups beginning January 5, 2026, aligned with the Exodus 90 timeline.
Because these groups require commitment and consistency, we will only move forward if there is sufficient interest.
Men’s Group: Exodus 90
We plan to host a free Exodus 90 group for adult men, open to married and unmarried men alike.
Start date: January 5, 2026
Cost: Free
Minimum participation required: 5 men
The group will follow the official Exodus 90 program, with weekly fraternity meetings and personal adherence to the Rule of Life. While this is not a sexual intimacy coaching group, topics such as self-mastery, integrity, discipline, and responsibility in one’s vocation often arise naturally and can be addressed appropriately within the Exodus framework.
If we do not have at least five committed men by Friday, January 2, the group will not move forward this year.
Women’s Group: Magnify 90 (Interest-Based)
We are also exploring the possibility of a free women’s group, ideally following Magnify 90, which is often described as a complementary program to Exodus 90.
Minimum participation required: 5 women
Additional requirement: A female volunteer host
If enough women express interest, we would happily invite a woman from our readership to serve as the primary host for the Magnify 90 group. We would provide structure, guidance, and support, while respecting appropriate leadership boundaries.
If there is sufficient interest but no female host, we will still follow up with interested women to explore an alternative women’s group option, shaped by the needs and interests expressed.
If we do not meet the five-participant benchmark by Friday, January 2, the women’s group will not move forward in its current form.
How to Express Interest
If you are interested in participating in either group, please complete the interest form below as soon as possible. Submitting the form does not obligate you, but it does help us determine whether these groups will run.
Beginning the year with discipline and fraternity can be deeply fruitful, but only when undertaken with seriousness and commitment. If this is something you have been discerning, now is the time to speak up.
We will confirm next steps shortly after January 2.
Update as of December 25, 2025
At this point, interest stands at:
Men’s Exodus 90 group: 3 men
Women’s group: 1 woman, no volunteer leader yet
We will continue to accept interest submissions through Friday, January 2.
A Note on the Men’s Exodus 90 Group
I want to be clear about how I approach Exodus 90. I am not a rigorist.
I have completed Exodus 90 multiple times, and I can confidently say that men can grow spiritually through this exercise without following the guide to the letter in every detail. In my first group, the leader emphasized something I believe strongly: Exodus 90 should help us grow as husbands and fathers, not detract from those vocations. The disciplines should be adapted to serve family life, not force families to absorb unintended penances.
One of the most common critiques I have heard about Exodus 90 comes from wives who felt they indirectly carried the burden of their husband’s penances. To avoid that, one healthy modification I have seen is this: while men abstain from TV, movies, or games on their own, shared activities with one’s wife and children remain permitted. Family life is not something to escape during Exodus. It is something to sanctify.
Another common critique is that Exodus 90 follows a self-help style “90 days to build habits” model rather than the liturgical calendar. For this reason, I propose that our group follow the Church’s rhythm more closely.
January 5, 2026 (Christmastide): We begin gently, incorporating some prayer commitments, workouts, and a limited number of penances.
Septuagesima (February 1, 2026): We increase the disciplines.
Ash Wednesday (February 18, 2026): We move into the full intensity of the Exodus disciplines.
Throughout the journey, ascetical practices will not be observed on Sundays or first-class feasts (or the equivalent in your rite). Temperance and prayer can of course be maintained or increased on those days, but the spirit of the liturgical celebration takes precedence.
Finally, we will also allow reasonable exceptions for family and social obligations, following the logic of the Gospels to fast in secret. You do not need to wear Exodus 90 on your forehead or make others uncomfortable in order to practice discipline faithfully.
If you are interested in joining the men’s group or the women’s group, please submit the interest form before January 2 so we can make a final determination.
