Exclusive: Examination of Conscience for Married Men
Examination of Conscience
for Married Men
Apostolate for Marital Intimacy, Inc.
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her.” (Ephesians 5:25)
Marriage is a sacrament. It is not merely companionship, attraction, or partnership. It is a path to holiness.
As a husband, you will answer before God not only for your personal sins, but for how you have loved your wife. You are called to lay down your life. You are called to sanctify by your example. You are called to become a reflection of Christ the Bridegroom.
This examination is meant to assist you in preparing your heart before God. Ask the Holy Spirit for light. Resist the urge to justify yourself. Where you see sin, acknowledge it. Where you see weakness, bring it to Christ.
God’s mercy is greater than your failure.
I. Spiritual Intimacy
A husband is called to spiritual headship in imitation of Christ. This authority is not domination. It is sacrificial leadership. Christ sanctifies His Bride. He does not neglect her. He does not remain spiritually passive.
Spiritual intimacy means that your wife should be able to grow in holiness more easily because she is married to you.
You are responsible for the spiritual atmosphere of your home.

II. Emotional Intimacy
Christ does not merely command His Church. He knows her. He listens. He is patient and compassionate.

Your wife’s body is not an object. She is a daughter of God entrusted to your care.
